Around here the streets are never empty. We always have to be vigilant crossing the street, looking for cars. People whiz down our street without care for who or what else is in the neighborhood. But, the evening before Fiesta, our annual downtown festival, they close the main drag. Close it down completely to cars. Peace. No cars, just people walking or kids scootering. Neighbors greeting neighbors. We spread out into the street, leaving cramped sidewalks behind. An ease fills my heart as my children play freely, without worry. I think this is my favorite part about Fiesta.
