187 Gum

In my own, personal, set of "good parenting" beliefs, I declared "Children under the age of 5, especially toddlers, should not, under any circumstances, chew gum! They are too young and you will just end up with gum in places gum does not belong." Pretty good common sense right? Well, then I found myself with a 10 year-old who loves gum and a 2 year-old who wants to do everything the 10 year-old does. Guess what happened to this "good parenting" rule of thumb...it went right out the window! Yes, I admit it, I now have a toddler who chews gum. And, she doesn't just chew it on occasion. She chews it constantly. No, I am not happy about this but so far (knock on wood everyone) it's all going well. Baby M knows she needs to spit it out, not swallow it. She knows which trash can it goes in. And, here is the bonus of being bald well into her second year, I don't have to worry about gum getting stuck in her hair.
