I feel so blessed! My mother has the good fortune to live across the street from a very generous, accomplished, retired-farmer-turn-gardener, who grows sweet basil like a cash crop. Imagine my delight when my parents met me at the baptism yesterday with two large household buckets filled to overflowing with sweet, sweet basil. Hubby's family roots are from Genoa, Italy, the birthplace of basil pesto. Learning the secret family recipe was a quest for me early on in our marriage. Now my recipe is like Mama Isola...a pinch of this...a handful of that. From our bounty, I made 12 one cup servings to savor from now until next month...just kidding...it might last us two months :o). We really love our pesto pasta!
